FAQs
General questions
What do the children need to take part in Code Playground?
Ideally, each child would have a device to follow the coding instructions, and be able to see and hear a screen with the video session on.
We use free online tools such as Scratch, micro:bit and EduBlocks for our projects. The children don't need to have an account with these services.
All of these platforms are accessible through a browser, so children can either use a laptop, Chromebook tablet or even smartphone. Some projects we run use a keyboard as the control, i.e. arrow keys to direct a character in a game. Despite this, these projects can still be made on a tablet, but they might not be playable without an external keyboard.
Do you come into the classroom and conduct sessions?
Following feedback from teachers like you, we’ve pre-recorded a range of videos you can use to help run virtual sessions in your classroom. You can play, pause and teach your students to learn to code at a time and pace that suits you.
Alongside these, there’s a range of lesson plans and teacher guides to help you run your own sessions.
What age/school year are the projects appropriate for?
Our resources are open to anyone who wants to get started with coding, regardless of age. They are aimed at Key Stage 2 and are accessible for most children aged 7 - 11.
Do you have lesson plans or workbooks so I can run my own sessions?
Yes we do. We have a whole set of projects to help you deliver your own lessons, designed for your children's needs.
